Reaching a state of love - Namgyal Rinpoche's Body, Speech and Mind
When I was a young man, I believed that love was an organic feeling that emerged between two awe-struck people, but after investigating the state of love using a better instrument, I noticed that I was slowly becoming the energy of love, which is a lot more fulfilling than looking for it in others. The better instrument I used to understand love on this deeper level was a book entitled Body, Speech & Mind – A Manual For Human Development. It’s a diverse collection of profound universal teachings from the Venerable Namgyal Rinpoche.
Naturally, I stopped seeking the thing that I was becoming. By investigating love, I found it at the centre of my being. One of the great human dilemmas was resolved. I didn’t need to worry about who did or did not love me anymore.
I remember this specific quote from the book working its way through my body, speech, and mind like a powerful snake weaving its way along a dry desert road:
At work, at home, wherever you are, whether meditating or not, if you are not investigating, you are not in a state of love. So how do you get to a state of love?
Reading this section led me to look more deeply at the energy of love, how easily I fall out of love and the importance of asking good questions about the nebulous concept of love. As the old saying goes, “Seek and ye shall find”.
I found true and lasting love! I found the beloved poets speak of.
Regardless of which excerpt you choose to use as a contemplation, the result will be fluid radiance moving through your body. Enjoy the ride! If you sincerely put these teachings into practice, not only will you change yourself, but you will also radically change a world in desperate need of more love and compassion.

Body, Speech & Mind – A Manual For Human Development is a collection of universal teachings from the Venerable Namgyal Rinpoche. It explores spiritual development across all dimensions of being and includes deep guidance on love, investigation, and meditation practice — helping readers move from seeking love externally to discovering it within themselves.
Namgyal Rinpoche was a renowned meditation master and founding teacher connected to Clear Sky Center. He was a pivotal figure in bringing Buddhist and universal Dharma teachings to the West, and his lineage continues to be taught today through teachers like Catherine Pawasarat Sensei.
According to Namgyal Rinpoche’s teachings, love isn’t something you find in others — it’s something you become through active investigation. Sincere inquiry into the nature of love, whether in meditation or daily life, can shift you from seeking love externally to finding it at the centre of your own being.
Namgyal Rinpoche teaches that being in a state of love requires ongoing investigation — a quality of curious, active attention brought to every moment. His teaching points out that if you are not investigating, you are not in a state of love, whether at work, at home, or in meditation.
You can begin by using any excerpt from the book as a contemplation. Clear Sky Center also offers retreats, courses, and guided meditations rooted in the Namgyal lineage, providing a supportive environment to put these teachings into lived practice.
