The team is putting up a power shed on a rainy day at Clear Sky. The shed will have several sections to house a wood supply, some tools, and a small transformer to convert the power supply coming along a 450-foot underground trench from our BC Hydro line to be ready for use in the house. We've also put in some extra lines that can be used in the future to sell back electricity to the grid. A well-calculated south-facing location and solar-friendly roof give Sky Roots great potential for retro-fitting solar panels some time in the future.

An epic, long day pouring 26 cubic metres of concrete... everyone onsite dropped their other work and lent a hand.

Concentration required! Part of the Sky Roots project calls for meditation students and karma yogi practictioners to practice "meditation-in-action", learning how to bring a clear meditative mind into the midst of activity. Here Kim shows Michelle from Ontario how to place the rebar to reinforce the freshly poured walls... |

The beauty of teamwork... Cara, our number one farmer and assistant centre manager, takes a turn pouring concrete with help from Mark and Michelle. |

Kim, taking a break from the chainsaw!
Part of the vision behind Sky Roots is to create a building that has a small footprint and which is an example of sustainability. A few trees need to be felled to create the road and excavation, so we have been working with local forest manager and steward Tom Quirk to select and mill wood from these trees to use later as finishing wood.

Tom carefully watches over a cut on his portable milling machine. By milling onsite we aim to minimize the damage caused by dragging fallen trees through the property and the costs associated with transporting timber to and from a milling plant. |

The snow is finally gone. Jacques, our local exacavator, has been onsite working with Kim and the team to put in the road. The road has been carefully planned and shaped to minimize damage and to make an easy grade for the winter. Who would have thought a well-planned road could be such a thing of beauty!

Sky Roots construction manager and maha-builder Kim Lenglet steps onto the Sky Roots building site for the first time. The occasion is marked by huge snowflakes -- millions of blessings falling from the sky. With Kim stands our landscape architect and native grassland restoration specialist, Leslie Lowe, in the brimmed hat.

The Clear Sky Building Force team meets every Tuesday to discuss the design and to plan the many, many details of the building. We are lucky to have a great team... |
Kim -- Onsite Sky Roots construction manager. Kim has been a carpenter and builder for 20 years. She recently built Lama Mark Webber's house at the Crystal Mountain retreat centre on Galiano Island, leading a team of volunteers to complete the building over a period of two years.
Duncan -- Sky Roots project manager and Clear Sky president since 2008, acts as the glue to hold all the different elements together. |
Edmund -- who, at the start of Clear Sky, almost single handedly finished the main house, driving down from Calgary every weekend for 18 months, and has been involved or led all our building work since, not to mention serving on the Board for 4 years! |
Richard -- stupa-builder with Sayadaw, a carpenter well-known in Toronto for having worked on almost every meditation center project in the city, and a long-term Clear Sky volunteer |
Martin -- now Clear Sky maintenance guy spending a lot of time onsite; a professional painter and decorator for many years. |

Meditation Classes in Cranbrook
Presented by Clear Sky Center
July 5th through August & September.
How do we cultivate awareness, peace & compassion in our lives? We will explore various themes, including Buddhist philosophy, psychology, and above all, the practical application of developing well-being through mindfulness practice. Michelle Heinz and Cara Conroy-Low, caretakers at Clear Sky Meditation Center, will be leading the first two meditation classes, followed by excellent Guest Teachers who have all been closely involved with the development of Clear Sky Center. Catherine Pawasarat, one of Clear Sky's founders and teachers will be teaching July 19th.
Our Summer Program with Achariya Doug Duncan will also be running full swing from July 9 to Sept 6 at the center in the Bull River Valley.
If you've never meditated before, no problem! You do not need to register and no prior experience is needed.
By donation: Classes are offered freely according to the ancient tradition of 'Dana' or generosity. We encourage you to practice generosity by supporting this precious opportunity to explore and practice together.
There will be a 'Dana bowl' in the foyer at Exhale. Thank you!
